Come visit three of our gardens on the Green and Solar Tour. These landscapes are filled with lovely native and drought-tolerant plants and will require significantly less water and maintenance than a typical yard.
Gardens on the Tour:
Prairie Net Zero Home on NW Dorion Way in NorthWest Crossing (#1) Installed by Blooming Desert Landscapes
Craftsman Net Zero Home on NW John Fremont in NorthWest Crossing (#2) Installed by Mateski Irrigation & Landscape
City View & Efficient Home on SW Troon (#4) Installed by Daniel Balyeat Landscaping
All three of these gardens are new and freshly planted. Landscapes of this type usually take 3-5 years to grow-in and establish themselves.
Signs of Sustainablilty:
1. Look for native plants and drought tolerant plants (often with small grey/green leaves). Plants are often grouped by water needs (sagebrush with desert penstemon, or mountain hemlock with creeping phlox) and designed to reflect nature.
2. Drainage swales, rain chains, and dry creeks to catch stormwater from the roof and other hard surfaces and incorporate it into the landscape.
3. Carefully designed irrigation: drip irrigation, mp rotators, or zoning to separate plants with differing water needs. Some advanced irrigation uses weather station controllers to exactly replace water that has been lost during the day due to wind, plant use and evapotranspiration.
