Client Testimonies

“Chris Hart-Henderson, and Heart Springs Design, is SolAire Homebuilder’s first choice referral to new homebuyers who are truly dedicated to sustainable landscapes for their new home.

We can depend on Chris to provide excellent customer service, gorgeous landscapes adapted to Central Oregon’s harsh climate and sound technical advice on LEED certified landscape design.

Happy customers, graceful landscapes that provide beautiful aesthetics and low water use installations are something we know we can expect from Chris and her staff.”

“Working with Chris Hart-Henderson on our sustainable landscape design was very enjoyable.  We now have a yard that is pleasing to look at and very easy to care for.

The added bonuses are that we have very low water bills and our home received the LEED Platinum certification along with the COBA Tour of Homes Green Award.  I can’t recommend Chris Hart-Henderson enough.” – David and Beverley Maul

“Our new home was built with a goal of reaching LEED Platinum certification.  The architect, builder and landscape professional we chose to help us meet those standards all have a firm grasp on not only how to meet the standards, but also why their clients choose to build and landscape with LEED’s definition of “green.”

Chris Hart-Henderson, landscape designer and owner of HeartSprings Landscape Design worked closely with our architect, builder and landscape installer in many ways:

1)       Calculating the cistern size to carry storm water runoff from our roof and assuring the gutters and catch-basins were placed to support this concept,

2)       Meeting our goal of attractive, yet low-maintenance, drought tolerant and deer-resistant plantings,

3)       Guiding our selection of qualified landscape professionals whom she supervised to LEED standards during the project,

4)       Being cognizant of our budget parameters with a plan that could be accomplished in stages.

We also benefited from Chris’ knowledge and long experience with the Central Oregon High Desert climate, her nursery’s cultivation and wintering-over of plants that are native and/or can thrive here.  We had a much later planting than anyone would recommend given house completion in late November, 2009; yet most of the plants survived the winter and we have a good start on Phase I of our plan.

One area we didn’t take the time last fall to do would have saved us lots of weed pulling this summer and that was Chris’ recommendation that we native-grass seed the construction-disturbed areas so the seeds would germinate over the winter and reduce the weed seed germination expected.  It was cold in November 2009.  We were focused on getting into the house before the Christmas season so we let this recommendation lapse.  Each weed pulled in those areas this summer has brought this recommendation to our minds and we’ll certainly “native-grass seed” the longer utility trench before winter this year!  We have been successful this summer with the construction-distrubed area we could easily reach with supplemental watering to get the seeds to germinate and take hold in July and August.” –Margie and Jim Lussier
